Welcome November,
It's already November, and we are nearing the end of 2021.  This year has been such a beautiful reminder of what matters. Family, health, and following your heart and dreams!  Our mermaid community has only grown stronger and more loving. The fabulous new tail designs and mermaid top innovations have sent a ripple through our market, and I couldn't have done it without you and your support. It's so magical to log onto Instagram to see you wearing our creations and making YOUR dreams come true as a mermaid. 

It also inspires others to take the leap and try mermaiding, which is why we are here. Zari and I have put together this monthly Secret Club editorial to help you learn and grow as a mermaid. We have dedicated our time to finding events for you to take part in, we have lovely sneak peeks, and we have tips and tricks to be safe and have fun as a mermaid.

November Cleanup Events

California River Cleanup
Give thanks to our Sacramento waterways by participating in a River Clean Up, sponsored through the American River Parkway Foundation. Our beloved Sacramento river has been particularly impacted in the past few years due to urban camping, pollution, algae blooms, and increasingly hot summers. As merfolk, we must be true stewards of our aquatic environments, and protect and work for what we cherish.
​The top two volunteer groups that pick up the most trash will receive a basket full of goodies from our amazing Digital Vendor Hall. Arrive promptly at 10 AM for a safety briefing and distribution of cleaning supplies.

International Coastal Cleanup

The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is the world’s largest volunteer effort for our ocean. People all over the world remove trash from the shores and document what they find, and Save The Bay is proud to be the Rhode Island State Coordinator for the effort, organizing dozens of cleanups throughout the state. In 2020, volunteers in the Ocean State collected more than 4,000 pounds of trash from Rhode Island shorelines.

Save Our Beach Cleanup

Save Our Beach conducts a Monthly Beach Cleanup on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm rain or shine at the beach parking lot at the end of 1st Street, Seal Beach. 

Pre-registering here will speed up the check in process for you and your family.  Each adult participant must register separately.  Minor children may register on a parent/guardian's registration. No need to print a ticket, we will check your pre-registration at our blue canopy! Clean-ups happen  'Rain or Shine'.
4Ocean Bracelet of the Month!

For the month of November, 4Ocean has chosen the Pelican as their featured bracelet icon! Pelicans are an indicator species that alert humans to unseen threats in the ocean environment. Nearly driven to extinction by human activity, plastic pollution and oil spills are now their biggest threats. That’s why these seabirds are our cause of the month for November 2021.

Are you ready for a good read?

Kariel is working on a children's book and it's going to be absolutely magical. The Story line is finished and already copywritten. This book ansers all our mermaid questions we have ever had and will be the perfect book to perform with!  This book wont be self published, this time, its rolling out in every book store in America in person and online! Now she is working on the art for every page!  Everything is slowly being created by Kariels hands. We're really excited to see the artwork and the story arc. More details will be known in the near future. Are you excited to dive into this book with your little mers? We sure are!

​I made this story with the intention to answer every Childs question they always ask and to make entertainment as a mermaid seamless and easy!

Clownfish Nightmares?

Wow! Working with Traci Hines must have been a lot of fun. Here we have some sneaks of new artwork that they have partnered on as well as a song by Kariel. I've always admired both Traci and Kariel, to see them partner together on a creepy mermaid clown look has been oddly satisfying and amusing. What I particularly love is that they took the time to do all of this UNDERWATER!!!

Topping it off with amazing news!
I'm sure this is what we are all excited for! MORE comfortable beautiful top styles to choose from. In my experience it's extremely important for my top to look beautiful and to fit comfortably so that I don't want to rip it off half way through a photoshoot. This starfish inspired top features intricate details on the upper rims and a beautiful centered shell.

​We have a nice time lapse painting of the STARFISH top design in progress by Kariel herself. There is also a 2nd scale silicone top being sculpted and  is in collaboration with Traci Hines for a project shes always wanted to create. I can't wait to see them in real life. MERMAID TIPS FROM KARIEL

Hot tips for booking in the winter during the pandemic!

Make sure the pool is heated and safe for you!
  • Don't be afraid to request the pool be heated for your safety and the kids. 93-95 degrees is epic for winter months with a cool breeze. 
  • Have extra towels on hand if you start to feel cold, and also ask for the parents to bring extra towels for the kids. I even bring a robe to wear when I get out!
  • A fun tip if you are wearing a wig is to wear a swim cap underneath to keep your head warm in the winter. No one likes to feel a soggy cold wig on their scalp.
  • If you are super cold once you get out of the pool, you can place hand warmers between your towels to come out to fresh warm towels! We have seen people do this in the winter in hot springs and this hack also works extra well for mermaids.
Keep your distance in the water!​
  • Get the kids to wiggle their arms like starfish and make sure those starfish arms can't touch anyone around them. 
  • Spread out for photos together, yet try to keep your distance: connect hand hearts from stretched-out arms. ​
  • Tell the kids about their imaginary bubble! You don't want the bubbles to pop.
​Don't let bullies ruin the magic!
  • The best thing to say if a child is offensive to you or being a non-believer and ruining the other kids' vibe is to tell them that they are hurting your feelings. 
  • And be very serious about it. Use their name and tell them how it makes you feel.​
  • It stops the bullying of the mermaid ASAP.
  • If you feel uncomfortable at any time get the parents involved or have your mer-handler step in and help out.
  • ​Most importantly stay safe and have fun!
